RECRUITMENT

MU Alpha Phi is a strong sisterhood of over 150 dedicated and outstanding women. Through the mutual selection process called recruitment, approximately fifty lucky girls join Alpha Phi each fall. Our new members exemplify the ideals on which our sorority was founded 139 years ago.

We were thrilled to welcome our 55 outstanding new members of fall 2011!  After a 6-week new member-education period, they were initiated on November 5, 2011.  Several new members have already taken leadership roles, and we look forward to implementing their ideas and creative visions to improve our chapter.

Why go greek?

ALL THE BEST GO IVY

Alpha Phi is a dynamic group of women on all of her campuses. Whether you are a scholar, an athlete, or a leader, Alpha Phi is the sorority for you. In Alpha Phi, you will find that friendships develop beyond surface level and blossom into lifelong connections. You will meet your study buddies, your bridesmaids, and your support system for college and beyond.

Social

Your college years will be filled with hours in class, the library and studying at your desk. You will also find time to meet new people and explore the social scene on your campus. Alpha Phi is a great way to meet new friends and make campus connections.

These connections may be found by attending social events, Homecoming or Greek Week events, formal dances, or just hanging out. Not only will you have fun with your Alpha Phi sisters, but you will also work to keep each other safe. Alpha Phis keep an eye on each other through our Watchcare program. As a member, you will practice this time-honored tradition that began with our Founders.

Sisterhood and Friendship

The best part of joining a sorority is the friendship and fun that ensues from those relationships. By joining a sorority, you will always have a study or lunch buddy, someone to walk with you to class, and a confidant. These friendships will transform from collegiate situations to those of determining which profession to pursue and other important life choices.  Sisterhood is what continues throughout your life, a bond that grows even stronger through the years.

The friendships made in college will last throughout your lifetime. Your sisters will see you in good times and in bad, and they will be there to support you all the way. You will have the traditions and rituals of Alpha Phi in your minds and the treasure of true sisterhood in your heart.

Leadership and Personal Growth

Alpha Phi is a network for scholastic support and social satisfaction, but it also provides an opportunity to expand your leadership portfolio. Every Alpha Phi chapter is managed by chapter members who serve in various leadership positions. These opportunities vary by chapter size and range from director of finance to new member educator to director of philanthropy to member development to chapter president.  If you want to experience leadership, there is a position for you!  Alpha Phi allows you to be who you want to be and develop into a mature, well-rounded woman.

FAQs

How long does Recruitment take?

Formal Recruitment is a 5-day process, beginning on a Thursday and ending on a Tuesday. During four “rounds”, you will visit each of the ten sororities to meet the members and get a feel for where you are most comfortable. The second round allows you to visit up to seven houses, third round allows up to five houses, and finally on Preference Night you will visit up to three houses to make your final decision. Tuesday night is Bid Celebration, where you finally become a new member of a sorority!

How do I sign up?

You may register online on The Office of Fraternity/Sorority Life website, where you will find updated information at the beginning of the semester. There is a registration fee for Formal Recruitment.

Do I need a Recommendation?

No, you do not need a recommendation to go through Formal Recruitment.

If I’m a legacy, will I automatically receive a bid?

There is no guarantee that you will become a member of the sorority in which you are a legacy. It is recommended that you keep an open mind during Formal Recruitment and take all the chapters into consideration. We want you to find the chapter that is best for YOU!

What should I expect as a new member of a sorority?

Every sorority has a different new member education process that varies in length and programming. For Alpha Phi, this process is a six-week new member period that introduces you to our beloved Fraternity. This period allows you to get to know the other members of your new member class, the chapter members, and Alpha Phi’s rich history.

Your period as a new member is the first opportunity to understand the meaning of our organization and the values and ideals upon which it was founded. It also provides you with an introduction to the responsibilities, expectations and opportunities of membership.

Alpha Phi has a strict no-hazing policy. During your introduction to Alpha Phi, you should never find yourself in an uncomfortable situation.
