3.23.08 - Theta Iota sponsored our most successful philanthropy week in JMU Alpha Phi history, donating $15,300 to the Alpha Phi Foundation, a record high donation amount! Aphiasco, which was held the second week of February, is a week promoting women’s cardiac care and education.
We kicked off the week with our second annual 5K walk/run “Move Your Phi’t” on February 9th. The following Monday, we hosted our second annual “King of Hearts” date auction. We also had a proceeds night at Ham’s restaurant, in which they kindly donated 15% of their total food sales.
Sisters were on the Commons all week selling "JMU is for LOVERS" t-shirts and giving out information on cardiac care. We also held our annual Jail & Bail event on the Commons. Jail & Bail is a faux jail, where prominent people on our campus stay while fellow students and friends raise money to “bail” them out. Jail & Bail is a fun way to get the whole campus involved in raising money for Aphiasco!
To conclude the week we held a Red Dress Gala on Friday, February 15th where 70% of the ticket sales went to our philanthropy. JMU's acapella groups provided the entertainment, a delicious dinner was served, a silent auction offered a wide variety of amazing gifts, and a guest speaker from the Women's Health Focus Center of Rockingham Memorial Hospital presented a fantastic educational session.
We thank everyone who participated and made Aphiasco extremely successful! Through the Alpha Phi Foundation, 75% of the money raised will be donated to the Women's Health Focus Center. We feel it is very important to give back to our local community and are thrilled to support Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
